Transporting our members

Spectrum Community Transport began in 2008. We currently have 2 x 17 seater mini buses, which can be hired by community transport members. Our members include sports clubs, luncheon clubs, shopping trips, schools, community groups and organisations, as well as individuals.

Our buses can be hired by our members for outings or you can join out trip club. We organise trips throughout the year for our trip club members, from Barnard Castle to Berwick and Sunderland to Sheffield. Trips are priced from £5, plus the annual £1 membership.

Trips are booked with a £4 non-refundable deposit. We also recently started a monthly luncheon club, where we visit local pubs and cafes to enjoy a tasty lunch. It’s a great way to get out and about and meet up with new or even old friends!

    • Seahouses**

      Saunter along the bustling harbour of this colourful fishing village and browse an Aladdin’s Cave of shops in this popular seaside holiday resort.

      Seahouses’ fishing past lives on at Swallow Fish, who operate the UK’s oldest operating smokehouses. Visitors are welcome at The Fisherman’s Kitchen where historic fishing memorabilia and curios are displayed alongside the local catch of the day.

    • Alnwick and Morpeth**

      Alnwick’s main shopping area is located in the town centre. It is split into three main streets, Bondgate Within, Market Street and Fenkle Street. Together they form a triangular circuit around the Marketplace.

      Morpeth is the place to visit if you want stylish shopping and a rich history to explore the historic county town of Northumberland with a unique combination of history, heritage and beauty.

    • Tynemouth and Whitley Bay**

      The coastal towns of Whitley Bay and its smaller (but more upmarket) neighbour Tynemouth are bursting with fantastic independent shops.

      Gloriously restored to the former glory of its grand Victorian days, Tynemouth Station now offers a vast covered space for the famous markets each weekend. Visitors come from far and wide to join the crowds enjoying the huge variety of over 150 stalls and soaking up the huge atmosphere on both sides of the platforms. Its magnificent glazed roof offers shelter whatever the British weather brings, rain or shine!

    • Scarborough**

      Scarborough is the original seaside resort; stunning scenery, glorious beaches, loads to see and do.

      You can still immerse yourself in Scarborough’s history with Scarborough Castle and the Rotunda Museum of geology. You could venture down to the seafront to enjoy the traditional amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, shellfish stalls and beach huts.

      Shopping in Scarborough is great no matter what your style or budget. From department stores and well known high street names to quirky boutiques and antique stores, Scarborough has it all! Make sure not to miss out on the hidden streets that line the main shopping parade to find more places to browse!

      However shopping all day can be tiring! Not to worry, weaved throughout the town centre are plenty of coffee stops and places to grab a quick bite should you need to re-charge.

    • Blackpool*

      Houndshill Shopping Centre is located in the heart of Blackpool, and is home to over 60 stores – including Debenhams, H&M, New Look, Footasylum, Peacocks, Jack Jones and River Island.

      After you’ve shopped until you’ve dropped, if you fancy a rest and a convenient bite to eat, there’s an excellent selection of restaurants and cafes at the Food Court, where you’ll find Burger King, El Taco Loco, Roosters and Café Real.

      The streets surrounding Houndshill are also packed with high-street staples like M&S and Argos. For something a little leftfield, venture out of the centre towards Topping Street and Abingdon Street on the east side of town, where you’ll discover some locally-run independent stores.

    • Stokesley and Helmsley**

      Stokesley town centre boasts a handsome cobbled street, lined with shops, banks and a number of award-winning restaurants – perfect for an afternoon of browsing, come rain or shine!

      Helmsley is renowned for its wide range of interesting and unique shops. You won’t find high street chains, just independently owned and run shops and boutiques offering a friendly service and selling everything from designer clothing and dazzling jewellery to books, homewares, gifts and everything in between. Helmsley is even home to what is officially Britain’s Best Small Shop.

      Cost: £14 per person.

       


    • Whitby**

      Whitby has a huge selection of shops on both the East side and West Side of the harbour.

      It hosts a number of well established retail outlets belonging to well known household names. Alongside some of these shops are the smaller independent retailers, for instance fruiterers, florists, butcher, different clothing retailers, a variety of greeting card shops, travel and photographic, furniture, shoe, gift shops and more.

PLEASE NOTE TRIPS MAY BE CANCELLED IF MINIMUM PASSENGER LEVELS ARE NOT REACHED.

Please add £1 for your annual membership fee. Trips can now be booked with a non-refundable £2 deposit. Please only pay the deposit and ensure the trip is fully paid for 14 days prior to the trip.

Spectrum Community Transport also hires the bus out to community groups, with a driver or with their own driver (terms and conditions apply). Please ring the Centre for further details.

Pick –ups - Trips marked * mean that the Willington area will be the first pick-up. Trips with ** next to them mean that the Crook area pick-ups will be first.

First pick–up times will be between 8.50 and 9.15a.m.

Second pick-ups will be between 9.15 and 9.30a.m.
